Roofing in Woodland Hills, CA: re-roofs built for the heat and for solar
Cali Energy replaces and repairs roofs in Woodland Hills under its C-39 roofing license: full tear-offs to new plywood, cool-roof shingle, attic ventilation, and roofs built to carry an array. On four Woodland Hills houses we replaced the roof, from twelve to fifty-two squares: on three of them the solar then went on, and on the fourth a 28-square tear-off to new plywood went in with a new main service panel, before any array.
Woodland Hills has 16,279 single-family homes with a median build year of 1960, and in the sixteen months from January 2025 LADBS issued 507 re-roof permits here, among the most of any Valley neighborhood. The heat decides the materials: a cool-rated Class A shingle and proper attic ventilation. Cali Energy has torn off and rebuilt four Woodland Hills roofs, three of them before installing solar on them, and the fourth, a 28-square tear-off to new plywood with a new main service panel, the city permitted, inspected and finaled inside twelve days.

Woodland Hills roofs
- Tract-era houses. Median build year 1960; 88.7% of single-family homes were built before 1978. The roofs we have taken off here were at the end of their life: twenty-eight squares of wood shake on one house, fifty-two squares of composition shingle on another.
- A re-roof neighborhood. LADBS issued 507 re-roof permits on one- and two-family homes in Woodland Hills from January 2025 to May 2026. How often and when LA roofs get replaced
- Heat. The hottest officially recorded spot in the county. A full re-roof here has to meet the City of Los Angeles cool-roof rule with a product rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council, and attic ventilation does the rest. The cool-roof rule · Attic ventilation requirements
- Roofs that will carry an array. When the roof has less life left than the solar, it comes off first. On three Woodland Hills houses we did the roof first, from twelve to fifty-two squares, then the array; on a fourth the roof and a new service panel went in ahead of any array.
