Shingle roof replacement with a cool-rated, Class A finish

Cali Energy replaces composition shingle roofs across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, in Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas, Simi Valley and Santa Clarita. Full tear-off, decking replaced as found, new underlayment and flashings, and Class A shingle in a color that meets the cool-roof rule. Roofing under our C-39 license, with the C-10 electrical license for the solar that goes on top.

Cali Energy replaces shingle roofs with a full tear-off: the old shingle comes off, the deck is checked and rot is replaced as found, and new underlayment, flashings and shingle go on under a permit. In the City of Los Angeles the new shingle has to be a cool-rated product certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council, which narrows the colors. Cali Energy has replaced shingle roofs across the San Fernando Valley, on their own and before solar.

What goes into a shingle re-roof

  • Tear-off of the old shingle to the deck. Overlay vs tear-off
  • Deck. Checked, and rot replaced as found; in North Hollywood that was part of the written scope from the start, and the roof built to it has stayed dry.
  • Underlayment, starter, drip edge and flashings at walls, chimneys, vents and valleys.
  • Shingle. Architectural lines, as on our North Hollywood re-roof, Class A fire rated, as on our Encino re-roof. Class A roof rating explained
  • Cool-roof color. The new shingle has to be a product certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Canoga Park the owner wanted grey, and we found a cool-rated grey shingle for the roof.
  • Permit and inspection with LADBS or your city.

Before solar

A shingle roof with only a few years left should be replaced before an array goes on it. In Encino the roofing permit was issued first, 20 squares of Class A shingle went on, and fifty-five days after the roofing permit the solar had permission to operate. In Granada Hills the rotten wood under the planned array was replaced and 30 squares of new shingle went on before any mount. New roof and solar together · Solar on composition shingle roofs

How a shingle replacement runs

  1. Measure and inspect. Squares, pitch, deck from the attic, flashings and vents.
  2. Written scope. Shingle line and color, underlayment, flashings, and how damaged decking is handled.
  3. Permit with LADBS or your city.
  4. Tear-off and deck repair.
  5. New roof: underlayment, flashings and shingle.
  6. Final inspection and the permit closed.

Does Cali Energy replace shingle roofs in Los Angeles?

Can I get a dark or grey shingle with the cool-roof rule?

The shingle has to be a product certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council, which narrows the color range. In Canoga Park the owner wanted grey: we moved to a cool-rated shingle line made in grey, and the roof went on grey.

Can new shingle go over the old roof?

We tear off down to the deck, so rot is found and replaced before the new roof goes on. In North Hollywood the written scope covered tear-off, a new deck and rot replaced as found; the roof was built to that scope and has stayed dry since. Roofing over old shingles vs tear-off

How big a roof do you replace?

Whole roofs and single sections. In Woodland Hills we re-roofed twelve, eighteen and fifty-two squares on three houses; in Studio City, one square under a working array.
