Solar panel installation in Studio City, CA
Cali Energy designs, permits and installs solar panels in Studio City and replaces and repairs roofs here under its C-39 roofing license. Six of our nine Studio City projects are new houses on rebuilt lots, and on several of them the solar conduit went through the framing before the walls were closed.
Studio City is in the City of Los Angeles: LADBS issues the permits and LADWP connects the system. On a new house LADWP can grant permission to operate only after LADBS releases the finished building, so the construction schedule sets the pace: on our Studio City projects permission came 14 days after filing on one house and 404 days on another, 322 of them spent finishing the building. Cali Energy, a Northridge solar company licensed under CSLB #1032379, files the permits and the utility paperwork and installs the panels.

Studio City homes
- City of Los Angeles. LADBS issues the permits and LADWP connects the system; part of Studio City carries ZIP code 91602, which it shares with Toluca Lake.
- Mid-century houses. In ZIP code 91604, 65.3% of the 6,018 single-family homes on the LA County Assessor roll were built before 1960, with a median build year of 1951.
- Re-roofs. LADBS issued 245 re-roof permits on one- and two-family homes in Studio City from January 2025 to May 2026, and a full re-roof here has to meet the City of Los Angeles cool-roof rule.
- Rebuilt lots. Six of our nine Studio City projects are new houses built after the old house was demolished.
Our Studio City projects
Fourteen days from filing to switched on.
A new house wired during construction; the meter photographs went to LADWP before it asked, and the system was switched on fourteen days after filing, in September 2024.
Four hundred and four days. The utility used twenty-seven.
Two arrays on a new house and a detached building, filed in June 2025; the building release came after 322 days, and both were switched on in July 2026.
Everything ends with somebody reaching the meter.
Array set during construction in March 2023; the owner unlocked the side gate for the meter crew, and the system was switched on in May 2024.
At the end, the utility asked for three photographs.
LADWP asked for photographs of the meter, the panel workspace and the weather head; we sent them once the metering was in, and permission followed in May 2023.
Two dwellings on one lot. Two of everything on the paperwork.
A new house and an ADU on two meters: two requests filed on the same day, and both switched on in August 2023.
We asked for the building final and the solar final on one date.
Arrays on a standing-seam metal roof over a new house and an ADU, both finals booked for one date, and both switched on in August 2025.
The main panel had no room for the solar breaker.
A remodeled house with a full panel: a quad breaker freed a position, sixteen modules went on, and the system was switched on in March 2025.
The roof was measured before anything was quoted.
The roof tape-measured plane by plane and twenty-seven squares replaced, then a 12.95 kW array spread across the planes and reporting to monitoring in 2026.
A hundred square feet of roof, and the array had to come off first.
One square of roof under an existing array with storage: modules lifted, covering replaced, every attachment re-flashed, and the system back in service in March 2026.
New Studio City houses: solar during construction
On several of our new Studio City houses the conduit ran through the open framing before the drywall, and the array went on while the house was still being finished; on one of them the modules were on the roof in March 2023, more than a year before the meter was set. LADWP's permission waits for LADBS to release the finished building, and before the meter crew comes the utility can ask for photographs of the meter, the panel workspace and the weather head, which we send as soon as the metering is in place. The last step is physical: the crew has to reach the meter, so a locked gate or a dog in the side yard is dealt with on the day.
Two homes on one lot
Where a Studio City lot has a house and an ADU on separate meters, each meter is its own LADWP customer, with its own interconnection request, its own charge and its own net meter, even when one crew installs both arrays in the same week. On two such lots we filed both requests on the same day, and both buildings were switched on together. Solar for an ADU in Los Angeles
Existing houses: the panel and the roof first
On a remodeled Studio City house whose main panel had no free position, a quad breaker listed for that panel freed one for the solar breaker; where a quad is not listed or the busbar has no room left, the answer is a new panel. Main panel upgrades
Two of our Studio City jobs were roofing first: a roof re-covered before its array went on, and one square replaced under a working array. Both are on our Studio City roofing page.

Studio City questions
Does Cali Energy install solar panels in Studio City?
Yes. Cali Energy designs, permits and installs solar panels in Studio City, with the LADBS permit and the LADWP interconnection, and replaces roofs here under its C-39 license; nine of our Studio City projects are written up as case studies. CSLB #1032379, 19201 Parthenia St, Northridge; call +1-323-844-7777.
When can solar go on a house we are building in Studio City?
On several of our new Studio City houses the array went on while the house was still being built, after the conduit was run through the open framing. Switching it on waits for LADBS to release the finished building to LADWP.
How long did LADWP take on new Studio City houses?
On our projects, permission to operate came 14 days after filing on one new house and 404 days on another, where 322 of those days went to finishing the building before LADBS could release it.
A house and an ADU on one lot: one application or two?
Two, when each home has its own meter: LADWP treats every meter as a separate customer. That was the case on two Studio City lots of ours, and both homes on each lot reached permission to operate on the same day.
Our main panel is full. Can the solar still connect?
Sometimes. On one remodeled Studio City house a quad breaker made room for the solar breaker, which works only where the panel is listed for it and the busbar has capacity left; otherwise the panel is replaced. Have a licensed electrician open the panel and count the positions before anyone quotes.

Building or re-roofing in Studio City?
Tell us whether the house is being built or already lived in. For a new build, send the plan set and the construction schedule, and we will fit the conduit and the array into it; for an existing house, a photo of the main panel and one of the roof are enough to start.
