Solar panel installation in North Hills, CA
Cali Energy installs solar panels in North Hills and takes each job through LADBS and LADWP itself. Here that has meant arrays spread over several roof planes, solar on two new ADUs and an addition to a system already on a roof; on the most recent lot, a house and an ADU, both meters were installed on the same day in August 2026.
North Hills is in the City of Los Angeles: LADBS issues the permits and LADWP connects the system, and LADWP's letters for a North Hills house can still carry Sepulveda, the area's former name. On our 2025 North Hills project the array was on the roof eight days after the contract was signed, and LADWP granted permission to operate on day 49. Cali Energy, the licensed solar company next door in Northridge (CSLB #1032379), files the permits and the LADWP paperwork and installs the system.

North Hills homes
- City of Los Angeles, once Sepulveda. LADBS issues the permits and LADWP connects the system. ZIP code 91343 also takes in parts of Northridge and Granada Hills, and LADWP's records can still carry the area's former name.
- Built in the 1950s. Half of the 8,568 single-family homes in ZIP code 91343 on the LA County Assessor roll were built by 1957; 67.9% went up before 1960 and 92.4% before 1978.
- Roofs coming due. From January 2025 to May 2026 LADBS issued 115 re-roof permits for one- and two-family homes in the North Hills East and North Hills West neighborhood council areas. Roofing
- Service equipment. On two of the North Hills houses below, the service equipment was replaced in the same job as the array. Main panel upgrades
Our North Hills projects
One house, four city names, one meter
Twelve 460-watt modules on microinverters and a new main panel, installed eight days after the contract was signed; LADWP set the net meter and granted permission to operate on 24 February 2025.
Two addresses on one North Hills lot, and everything filed twice
A house and a new ADU on one lot: a separate load schedule, diagram and plot plan per address, two work requests kept open through the build, and both meters installed on 17 August 2026.
A North Hills ADU, and a solar application filed alongside the build.
Eight modules on a new ADU, filed with LADWP as a separate solar application after the builder's meter request could not be converted; permission to operate on 19 December 2024.
Before the first hole on a North Hills roof: pitch, plane and obstructions
Pitch, vents and rafters measured on the roof before the first hole; the main block filled one wide plane, a second group went beyond the ridge, and the array was commissioned in April 2025.
Twenty-one modules and twenty-one inverters on one North Hills roof
No single plane was big enough, so twenty-one modules went across several faces of a ranch roof, each on its own microinverter; all twenty-one were producing at commissioning in October 2021.
The plan was approved. The payment page was not working.
An addition to an array already on the house: two rounds of plan corrections and a permit fee the city's page would not take, then permission to operate on 24 June 2021.
North Hills: the electrical final closed in eleven days.
An array over two planes, with the inverter and new service equipment on the wall, installed on 5 October 2021; the electrical final closed on 7 February 2022.
One delivery, one working day on a North Hills roof
Rails, flashings and two groups of modules on microinverters installed in one working day in May 2021; the final inspection passed at the first visit on 4 June.
The address LADWP has on file
On our 2025 North Hills project, LADWP addressed the interconnection receipt and its first notice to Northridge and every later notice to Sepulveda, while the homeowner's mail said North Hills. A search of LADWP's tracking by street address can miss a job like that, so we follow every LADWP project by its work request number. The array was finished eight days after the contract was signed, and for the last three weeks before permission to operate the job waited for a meter crew, while LADWP's field crews worked through properties damaged in the January fires. Solar on a new North Hills ADU
On one North Hills lot the builder had already asked LADWP for a meter spot for a new ADU, and the utility would not convert that request to solar, so we filed the solar online as its own application and carried both requests side by side. When LADWP then asked for its own inspection after the city's release, we put the builder in touch with the service representative that afternoon, and permission to operate came on 19 December 2024.
On another North Hills lot, LADWP wanted a single-line diagram, a load schedule and a plot plan for each address, and would spot the meters only once the framing was complete; both were installed on 17 August 2026. Solar for an ADU in Los Angeles
Roofs in several planes
On a long, low ranch whose hips and crossing gable left no face big enough on its own, twenty-one modules went over several planes with a microinverter under each, so afternoon shade on one face costs only the modules on that face. Before a layout like that is drawn we measure the pitch on the plane itself, mark out vents, flues and fire setbacks, and find the rafters. The same walk checks the deck and the shingles before an array covers them; on our April 2025 North Hills roof it found nothing to repair. Roofing
Adding solar panels to a system you already have
For a 2021 North Hills addition, the LADBS plan check wanted to know what was already there: the existing inverter and module models, how the roof was framed and how far apart the rafters were, and each load in the main panel with its breaker, since the calculation is done on the whole system. We sent the corrected set two days later, chased the permit through a city payment page that would not take the fee, and LADWP's permission to operate came on 24 June 2021, 44 days after we filed the interconnection request. North Hills questions
Does Cali Energy install solar panels in North Hills?
Yes. Cali Energy designs, permits and installs solar panels in North Hills under CSLB #1032379, which also covers the electrical (C-10) and roofing (C-39) work around it; nine of our North Hills projects are written up as case studies. Office: 19201 Parthenia St, Northridge; call +1-323-844-7777.
LADWP's letters say Sepulveda or Northridge. Is that our project?
It can be. On our 2025 North Hills project LADWP addressed its notices first to Northridge and then to Sepulveda, the area's former name, for a house whose mail says North Hills. The work request number on each notice is the reference that does not change.
We are building an ADU. Can the builder's meter request include the solar?
Not on our 2024 North Hills ADU: LADWP would not convert the builder's meter request, so the solar went in as a separate online application, and permission to operate followed on 19 December 2024.
What did LADWP ask for to set meters for a house and an ADU?
On our North Hills lot, a single-line diagram, a load schedule and a plot plan for each address, sent as PDFs, with the meter spot visit only after the framing was complete. Both meters were installed on the same day, 17 August 2026.
Can more panels be added to a system already on the roof?
Yes. On our 2021 North Hills addition, the plan check needed the models of the existing inverter and modules, the rafter size and spacing, and a full load schedule for the main panel, and permission to operate came 44 days after the LADWP filing. Whether your panel can carry more solar is decided by a licensed electrician from that load calculation.

Planning solar in North Hills?
Send a recent LADWP bill and a photo of the roof. If an ADU is being built, tell us who filed the meter request and how far the framing has gone; if solar is already on the house, a photo of the existing inverter label saves a round of plan-check questions.
