Solar panel installation in San Fernando, CA
Cali Energy installs solar panels in the City of San Fernando, and half of our six installations here went on tile: two flat concrete tile roofs and one of clay S-tile. Another put a Tesla Powerwall beside the microinverter combiner.
The City of San Fernando is a separate city surrounded by Los Angeles. Its Community Development Department handles solar permits, which for homes can be issued instantly online through Symbium, and Southern California Edison is the utility, while the Los Angeles neighborhoods around it are on LADWP. ZIP code 91340 covers both sides of the city line, so the address alone does not settle which utility a house is on. Cali Energy, a licensed solar company (CSLB #1032379), installs solar panels on San Fernando houses; six of those installations are written up, three of them on tile.

Eight modules on one roof face, and everything else on the wall

Solar panels on San Fernando tile roofs
On our three San Fernando tile roofs, two of flat concrete tile and one of clay S-tile, the tile at each mount position was lifted rather than drilled, a hook was fixed to the rafter beneath it, and the tile was laid back in place; on the concrete tile roofs each hook was also sealed at its fastener. Where the conduit leaves the roof, the penetration was flashed and bedded in sealant. On one flat tile roof the crew photographed every cracked and broken tile before starting, and sealed a cracked tile along its length on the first day. Roofing
A Powerwall beside microinverters
On a 2025 San Fernando house the 22 modules went in four sections on the roof faces that could carry them, each on its own microinverter, and a Tesla Powerwall was hung under the covered patio next to the combiner. Since the microinverters convert to AC up on the roof, the Powerwall is AC-coupled at the wall; the bracket went up first thing on 7 August, and the array and the battery were in place the next morning.
