Roof repair in Los Angeles, under the tile and around the flashing

Cali Energy repairs tile and composition shingle roofs across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, in Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas, Simi Valley and Santa Clarita. Failed underlayment under sound tile, flashing around chimneys and vents, rotten decking, and roofs that carry solar. We work under our C-39 roofing license and hold the C-10 electrical license as well, so a repair under a solar array stays with one contractor.

A roof repair starts with finding where the water gets in. On a tile roof the waterproofing is the underlayment and flashing beneath the tile; on a shingle roof the weak points are the flashings at chimneys, vents and valleys. Across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, Cali Energy traces the entry, repairs that layer and the decking under it, and sets the covering back so the roof keeps its look. When the repair sits under solar panels, Cali Energy takes the array off and puts it back itself.

Roof repairs we do

  • Tile roofs with failed underlayment. In Burbank the tile was sound and the underlayment under it had failed. We lifted and stacked the tile, stripped the old underlayment, replaced damaged sheathing, laid new underlayment, carried a torch-applied membrane under the Z-bar flashing at the wall junction and set the same tile back. • Chimneys, vents and skylights. In Porter Ranch the flashing around a chimney needed replacing, and about four hundred square feet of tile came off to rebuild it before the solar went on. Why roofs leak around chimneys
  • Rotten decking. In Granada Hills the wood under a planned array was rotten; it was replaced while the covering was off, so every fastener landed in sound structure.

  • Roofs under solar panels. Solar panel removal and reinstallation

Repair or replace

A repair fixes one layer in one area. When the covering itself is worn out across the roof, replacement is the better spend. We tell you which one your roof needs after the inspection, and put it in writing. Roof repair or replace · Signs you need a new roof · Roof replacement

How a roof repair runs

  1. Inspection. We trace where the water enters, on the roof and from the attic.
  2. Written scope. What comes off, what is replaced and what goes back, with any decking allowance spelled out.
  3. Permit. We file the permit LADBS, your city or, outside city limits, LA County Public Works requires for the work. Re-roof permit rules across LA-area cities
  4. Repair. Underlayment, flashings and decking are renewed under the area that failed.
  5. Covering back. The same tile is reset, or the shingle is matched and woven in.
  6. Inspection where required, and the permit closed.
