Tujunga, Los Angeles, CA · April – May 2025 · LADWP / LADBS

A final two days after the install, and PTO thirteen days after that

Thirteen 540 W modules with a microinverter under each, installed in one day. The city signed off two days later, and the utility authorized the system to operate thirteen days after that.

This Tujunga installation is 7.02 kW DC: thirteen Canadian Solar 540 W modules, each with an Enphase IQ8HC microinverter, on a composition shingle roof. Cali Energy installed it on 22 April 2025, the LADBS final inspection was passed on 24 April, and LADWP authorized permission to operate on 7 May, nineteen days after the permit was issued.

The story

The LADBS permit was issued on Friday 18 April 2025. On the Monday the installation was booked for the next day, with the materials delivered to the house that morning, and the system went on the roof on Tuesday 22 April.

It is thirteen Canadian Solar 540 W modules, 7.02 kW DC, laid out as a long row of nine with two modules running down from each end. Each module has an Enphase IQ8HC microinverter under it, wired in two branches of seven and six to an Enphase IQ Combiner 5 on the wall.

Every mount went through the shingle the same way: a ring of sealant around the drilled hole and a second ring around the area the base covers, then a flashed mount with its plate under the shingle course above.

The final inspection was requested the next day for Thursday 24 April, with an inspection window of one to three in the afternoon and the gate left open for the inspector. The final was passed that day, two days after the install.

The utility's part followed. On 7 May LADWP sent its notice that it had authorized permission to operate, and its crew installed the new meter. The system was set up the same day, leaving the homeowner one step, switching the solar breakers on, which Cali Energy took on explaining. From permit to permission to operate, nineteen days.
