Home battery installation in Santa Clarita, CA

Cali Energy installs home batteries in Santa Clarita with new solar or beside a system you already have. Four of the twenty Santa Clarita systems under our monitoring run with a battery, and our whole-home backup project here, four battery units on an exterior wall, has been running since permission to operate in January 2025.

In Santa Clarita a battery is part of most new solar systems: of the 2,443 residential systems SCE approved here from January 2025 to March 2026, 87.1% included one. Two things drive it: SCE's Net Billing Tariff pays little for exported solar, and much of the valley sits in or beside high fire-hazard terrain where SCE uses Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Cali Energy designed, permitted and installed a four-unit whole-home backup system in Santa Clarita, with the batteries on an exterior wall as the county fire department's review asks.

Why Santa Clarita homes add a battery

  • SCE's Net Billing Tariff. New solar in Santa Clarita exports at hourly values far below the evening price of grid power; storing the afternoon at home is what makes the system work. Do you need a battery under NEM 3.0?
  • Shutoffs. Much of the Santa Clarita Valley sits in or beside high fire-hazard terrain, and SCE uses Public Safety Power Shutoffs in dangerous wind. A battery bought for the tariff is also what keeps the refrigerator, the furnace and the internet running when the lines go dark. Solar and battery backup for a multi-day PSPS
  • The numbers. 87.1% of the 2,443 residential systems SCE approved here from January 2025 to March 2026 included a battery, with a median system of 7.5 kW.
  • Sun. The 11 homes we monitor in the Santa Clarita Valley made a median 1,514 kWh per kW a year in 2023–2025, the highest of the areas we monitor, a small sample but more afternoon surplus to store. Solar production by area

Where the batteries can go

Battery placement is a code question before it is a convenience question. In Santa Clarita the county fire department reviews energy storage separately from the city, and the drawings have to show the clearances rather than imply them. On our whole-home project the county fire department's review set the four battery units on an exterior wall with a three-foot clearance drawn in elevation; we moved them on paper, the fire department approved the plans in late November, and the array and the batteries went in across December. Rebates and programs

The state's SGIP incentive covers SCE customers; in 2026 only its income-qualified tier for new solar with storage takes applications. The City of Santa Clarita is not a Clean Power Alliance member, so CPA's Sun Storage Rebate applies only to the unincorporated areas around it, such as Stevenson Ranch and Castaic, which CPA serves.
