The short version
You already have solar, and now the roof underneath needs replacing. Why the panels have to come off

Who should do it — and why one licensed team matters
A roofing company, on its own, isn't the right party to handle your panels: disconnecting, reconnecting, and recommissioning a PV system is electrical work that needs a C-10 or C-46 license in California, not a roofing license. In San Diego, for example, the re-roof PV permit spells out that the reinstallation must be done by a qualified C-10 or C-46 contractor, and it doesn't allow altering the original equipment (City of San Diego). If you want to upgrade the inverter or add a battery during the re-roof, that's typically a separate, new permit — not a like-for-like reset.
The cleanest arrangement is one contractor licensed for both the roof and the electrical, so the array and the roof are designed and warrantied together instead of two crews scheduling around each other and pointing fingers if something leaks later.
