Cali-Graf Moves to cali-graf.com: Design App and Contractor Directory on One Site
In October 2026, Cali-Graf — the free solar design and proposal app developed by Cali Energy — moved to its own address, cali-graf.com, and now shares it with a public directory of licensed Southern California contractors and solar equipment. Installers sign in from any page of the site; homeowners use the directory without an account. The old address, app.cali-energy.com, now leads to cali-graf.com, and calculations, roof designs and proposals moved with their accounts.
What changed, by date
The app's release notes, published at cali-graf.com/updates, list the October changes newest first. In order:
| Date | What changed |
|---|---|
| October 2, 2026 | A new Calculations page. Calculations, the business card and settings in one place: search by address or customer, filter by group, make a copy of a calculation as a second option for the same customer, a 30-day Trash, and defaults for the price per watt, rate growth and payment |
| October 2, 2026 | Every CEC panel in the roof editor. The panel picker searches the whole California Energy Commission list, not only suggested panels; picking one lays out the roof in that panel's size |
| October 5, 2026 | Cali-Graf gets its own address. The app moves to cali-graf.com on Google Cloud; the old app.cali-energy.com address opens cali-graf.com, and calculations, roof designs and proposals move with their accounts |
| October 5, 2026 | A new proposal: five clear sheets. The customer proposal is rebuilt from 14–26 pages to five sheets, six with a battery, that a homeowner reads in a couple of minutes |
| October 6, 2026 | Help center in the app. A Help center button above the tutorial in Calculations and in the calculator, and a book icon in the roof editor; it opens in a new tab without interrupting work |
| October 2026 | The directory opens on cali-graf.com. Licensed solar, roofing and electrical contractors ranked by building permits, solar equipment from the CEC lists, a free license check and calculators — on the same site as the app |
For installers: where things are now
Nothing about the work inside the app changed with the move — the same Google sign-in, the same calculations, the same free use with daily limits. What changed is how you reach it and what sits around it:
- Sign in is in the header of every page on cali-graf.com and opens the app.
- The Cali-Graf app menu on every page links to the app's landing page, a sample proposal, what's new, the is Cali-Graf free? answer and all twelve sections of the help center.
- The app's own page is cali-graf.com/software, with the features, data sources, limits and a short FAQ.
- Old bookmarks to app.cali-energy.com still work and lead to cali-graf.com.
The proposal is the release most installers will notice. It now opens with the homeowner's monthly bill today and with solar, puts the roof design, savings and price on one sheet each, adds a battery sheet only when there is a battery, and ends with the Contractors State License Board's right-to-cancel notice. It carries only the installer's business card — "there's nothing about Cali Energy on your proposals", as the release note puts it. Details: a new proposal — five clear sheets.

The five-sheet proposal is live in every account. Open the sample, then build one for a home you know.
For homeowners: what the site now offers
The home page of cali-graf.com is now the directory. Without an account, anyone can:
- find solar installers, roofers and electricians in ten Southern California counties, ranked by real building permits rather than by who pays — the home page shows 0 paid placements in rankings;
- check a contractor's license, with status, bond and workers' compensation from the Contractors State License Board and the permits that show what the company actually built;
- look up a solar panel, inverter or battery with its datasheet, independent tests and real installs in Southern California;
- use free calculators for string sizing, solar production by city and battery backup time.
As of October 2026 the directory covers 20,925 licensed contractors, 748,597 building permits linked to their licenses and 5,083 current equipment series. For a tour of both halves of the platform, see what Cali-Graf is.
One data set behind both
The move put the app and the directory on the same data. Equipment in the app comes from the same California Energy Commission lists that power the equipment directory, so the specifications a seller uses in a design are the ones a homeowner can look up later. The directory's contractor data comes from the license board and from city and county permit portals, with the coverage period of each portal published on Data sources.
What didn't change
- Free to use. The roof editor, bill calculation and proposal PDF still have no subscription, credit card or trial; daily fair-use limits apply.
- Your work stays yours. Calculations and customer details remain private to each account; Cali Energy never uses them to sell its own work or contacts installers' customers.
- The same scope. Bills are calculated for LADWP and SCE homes, including Clean Power Alliance supply; permit plan sets and engineering are outside the app's scope.
